Are you a creative, detail-oriented student with a passion for design, photography, and storytelling? Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is looking for a Communications Intern to join their team in Marquette, Michigan. In this internship, you will do meaningful work, develop your professional skills, and be part of a friendly and creative team that values your voice.
COMPENSATION. $18.00 – $20.00 per hour based on experience.
SCHEDULE. This internship offers a flexible schedule based upon the successful candidate’s school schedule. Typically this would be full-time during the summer months (if not in school) and then part-time (10-15 hours per week) during the school year and during school breaks. The start and end dates will be coordinated with the applicant based on their school schedule.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
As part of our Communications Department, you’ll gain hands-on experience while contributing to a variety of exciting projects, including:
- Creating and publishing content for our internal TV monitors.
- Helping collect content and design our quarterly employee newsletter.
- Designing templates and banners for intranet news posts.
- Capturing company photos for use in publications.
- Assisting with layout and design needs for various materials.
- Supporting the team in planning and executing public events.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
Someone currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, photography, or marketing, and available to work part-time during the school year, and more during breaks like summer and winter.
Required Skills
- Basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Photography and photo editing experience.
- A creative mindset with great attention to detail and strong organizational habits.
Desired Skills (can be acquired during internship)
- Curating content for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to coordinate projects across many departments.
- Basic understanding of design principles and technical design skills.
